Flies For Atlantic Salmon & Steelhead — Digital Edition
For the first time, Flies for Atlantic Salmon & Steelhead is now available as a digital edition on Amazon Kindle.
This is a print-replica edition, created directly from the original book files. Every page, every plate, and every design decision has been preserved exactly as it appeared in the hardcover. Nothing has been reformatted or simplified. The structure of the book remains intact.
Because of this, the digital edition is not intended for phones or small Kindle devices. It is best viewed on a tablet or larger screen—ideally 11 inches or more—or on a laptop or desktop. On a tablet, the book should be viewed in landscape orientation, where the pages open naturally and the layout can be appreciated as it was designed.
In many ways, this format lends itself well to use at the fly-tying bench. With a larger screen and the ability to zoom, readers can examine flies in a way that is difficult even in print. With over 1,000 photographs across 384 pages, details of materials, proportion, and construction become easier to study—whether looking at the structure of a wing, the placement of hackle, or the balance of a finished pattern.
The book features work from some of the finest fly tiers of the past and present, including Will Bush, Dave McNeese, Stuart Foxall, Shannon Alexander, and Harry Lemire. Their work spans a wide range of traditions, from classic salmon flies to modern steelhead and tube fly designs.
Among the highlights is a complete gallery of Victorian-era salmon flies dressed by Will Bush, presented with careful attention to proportion and historical accuracy. There are also several plates of reimagined classic steelhead flies tied by Dave McNeese.
A full chapter is devoted to Syd Glasso, including numerous images of original flies he tied and fished—patterns that helped define modern steelhead fly design. The book also includes a small group of original flies tied and used by Zane Grey, along with classic steelhead patterns tied by Harry Lemire.
In addition, several plates of tube flies tied by Håkan Norling and Mikael Frödin reflect the continued evolution of Atlantic salmon fly design.
A total of 1,500 first-edition hardcovers were printed. Today, just over 400 copies remain, available through Amazon, eBay, and directly from the author, currently priced at $119 (original retail $150). No additional hardcovers are planned, and no paperback edition will be produced. The existing printing represents the complete physical edition of the book.
The digital edition provides continued access to the full work as the remaining hardcovers are gradually dispersed.
The book is available in digital format for $24.99 and can be downloaded for use on compatible devices.
This release makes the work of Trey Combs more accessible while preserving the design and structure of the original volume. For those who tie flies, study patterns, or simply appreciate the craft, the digital edition offers a practical way to engage with the material in detail.
